The duo won the guaranteed first prize of $200,000 in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1316, drawn on Friday, May 17, 2019.
Speaking with a NSW Lotteries official the pair admitted they had no idea they won until they heard there was an unclaimed lottery prize in Young.
"I made a joke to dad that we should check our ticket because we were the winners," the son laughed.
"He went and checked the ticket and it wouldn't scan. So we checked the ticket online and saw we'd won.
"I was really surprised. I was very, very shocked to be honest.
"It doesn't feel real. It hasn't sunk in. It probably won't until I see the money in the bank account."
The two men said celebrations had already begun and would continue into the weekend.
"I didn't go to work today! I woke up this morning and got up and thought 'what the hell am I doing out of bed?'," the son chuckled.
"I decided to have the day off. I thought 'nup, I am not going into work today.' I even went back to sleep and had a sleep in!
"We are going to celebrate this weekend, have a few drinks. We will probably have a few drinks tonight too actually, now that it's been confirmed."
The father and son said they had plenty ideas of how they would like to use their prize.
"I will pay off some bills and go on a holiday overseas, maybe to Hawaii," the son declared.
"The rest I will put in the bank and let it sit there until I decide what to do with it.
"Dad wants to do some renovations on the house.
"It really has come at the perfect time for the both of us."
The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Donges Supa IGA, 159 Boorowa Street, Young.
Manager Wendy Silk said she was thrilled to hear one of her customers had become $200,000 richer.
"It's pretty amazing," she said.
