First grade coach Roy Jewitt says Young has been conceding too many tries in the opening weeks of the Group Nine season.
Rival clubs are piling on an average of 27 points against the Cherrypickers defence each week.
"You can't win too many games allowing 28 to 30 points in," Jewitt said.
"We've spoke about defence and working more as a team. Working in one line and improving communication."
Will Dunn will make his debut this week with James Schiller on representative duties, while Sam Langford is the third Picker to play five-eighth this season.
First grade is set for a 2.30pm start on Sunday.
