With the talent we have in Young the Company is confident it can present a very professional performance.
Following auditions, the following people have the main parts:
Eliza Doolittle is Julie O'Connor, Professor Higgins is played by Rob Provan, the role of Colonel Pickering went to Eris Gleeson, Doolittle is Phil Mitchell, Freddy Eynsford-Hill is Peter O'Connor, Mrs Pearce played by Kerrie Provan, Mrs Higgins is Joy Rule and Mrs Eynsford-Hill is Barb Granger.
As can be seen from this - a very strong cast indeed plus several of the regular Company members playing minor parts in the chorus as well as some new members.
The overall production is in the hands of Director Sheila Traynor who has directed all the musicals over the last 20 years.
The Musical Director is Margaret Fathers who has also helped in this role over the last 20 years.
The orchestra is in the expert hands of Mark Brooker.
Set construction is in the capable hands of Stuart Hart, another long-time member who has given us some realistic sets in the past.
Costumes are in the hands of Kay McDonald.
The setting up of lighting and sound is left to our expert John Roxburgh - who also has a role to play in the chorus. John is also training James Sheehan to assist with lighting.
To produce a musical is very expensive as all scripts and music has to be hired and a fee paid for every performance.
The Company is looking at about $10,000 to produce the show.
Fortunately, in the past, their loyal patrons have usually helped cover costs so hopefully they will continue to do so.
The show will open on August 30 for two weekends and close on September 7.
It is a show suitable for all the family with singing, dancing and humour.
If anyone is interested in joining the show please come to a rehearsal Tuesday or Thursday evening at Catherine McAuley Hall and the Young Theatre Company will see if they can accommodate you.
My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.
The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a lady.
The original Broadway and London shows starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews.
The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a notable critical and popular success. It set a record for the longest run of any show on Broadway up to that time. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and many revivals.
