A highlight of the Henry Lawson Festival, the always entertaining Wood Chopping Competition will be on again the June long weekend. A large crowd of spectators is always on hand to see the axemen strut their stuff racing against the clock and each other.

Woodchop Coordinator, Deidre Carroll, said that competition has long been a crowd favourite and was heavily supported by local businesses. "This popular event at the Henry Lawson Festival would not be possible without the support and sponsorship of these community minded members and business houses".
The Wood Chopping will be held in Rygate Square in lower Main Street and will commence at 2pm following the street parade. Axemen will demonstrate their skills in the underhand and standing block handicaps, along with a Championship Chop. Finals commence at 3.30pm, with the final days event finishing around 4.00pm.
Those keen enough to head down to the Wood Chopping will also be able to witness some amazing skills as the axemen carving seats from blocks using chainsaws, with the end results being presented to the smallest spectators on hand.
Wood chopping has been a very been a popular event at the Festival since 1977 and Deidre said the event owes much to its sponsors including Grenfell Lions Club, Terry Carroll, Oliver's Hardware, Peter Mellon Motors, The Railway Hotel, Closeburn Stud, Grenfell Contractors and Wal and James Barker.
