He is survived by his wife Betty, children Kate, Rob, Ellen, son in law Vance and grandson Simon.
John's parents were Ett and Jack Taylor of the Ambulance Station, Young.
He had 10 siblings.
Family and friends gathered at St Mary's Church where Father Thornton celebrated a beautiful requiem mass for the life of John.
Robert delivered a very uplifting and heartfelt eulogy for his father, acknowledging his long and committed service to the people of Young and his loving, caring devotion to his family saying "we were truly blessed, thank you, Dad".
Many ambulance officers travelled to Young to form a guard of honour at the church and cemetery.
Later at the Bowling Station Officer Nathan McEvoy presented John's family with the Ambulance flag.
This year celebrates 90 years of Ambulance service in Young, starting on September 1, 1929.
Jack, John's father, commenced service here on January 26, 1938 and returned as Superintendent on July 15, 1970.
John retired after 39 years service as Station Officer.
John's service to the Young station being from 1956 to 1995.
Brothers Peter (deceased), Michael, Gregory and Phil all served in Young at different times.
Betty and family are overwhelmed with the support of so many people, floral tributes, phone calls and cards.
