Organisers of this year's 70th National Cherry Festival made the announcement this week, while also calling for more entrants to both competitions.
David, 32, who works as member service operator at the South West Slopes Credit Union, is raising money for the Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network.
"My main aim for this is to raise awareness. My fundraisers will be affordable to get as much of the community involved as I can," he said.
"Young is a great little town. Especially being born and bred [in Young], I'd really like to give something back to the community and hold my head up high and bring the community together."
