Organisers of this year's 70^th National Cherry Festival made the announcement this week, while also calling for more entrants to both competitions.

David, 32, who works as member service operator at the South West Slopes Credit Union, is raising money for the Hilltops Suicide Prevention Network.

"My main aim for this is to raise awareness. My fundraisers will be affordable to get as much of the community involved as I can," he said.

"Young is a great little town. Especially being born and bred [in Young], I'd really like to give something back to the community and hold my head up high and bring the community together."

Brianah is a 19-year-old trainee at Gordon Garling Moffitt Lawyers. Her charity is the Lions Club of Young.

"I thoroughly enjoy helping our local community and raising funds for local organisations," Brianah said.

She has a number of fundraisers already planned.

An outline of the competitions states that the competitions are one of the most important parts of the National Cherry Festival.

This year's National Cherry Festival runs from Friday, December 6 until Sunday, December 8.

The Cherry King and Cherry Queen crowning is on Saturday, December 7. The entrants will participate in and visit various activities throughout the festival. Events might include:
