Council on Thursday advised that it was in receipt of the application for 288 Boorowa Street, Young.
When the news was shared by The Young Witness on its Facebook page residents were quick to share their opinion.
"In two minds about this, love Bunnings especially for the things you can't get here in Young but scared for the already struggling small businesses here in Young," Sharon McCoy said.
Sonja Lynch said the development would be a detriment to nurseries and small hardware stores.
"I feel like this would be bad for all the nurseries and hardware stores though, and smaller businesses in Young," she said.
In contrast, reader Bill Yeomans believes competition between businesses is a good thing.
"Bunnings hasn't hurt Forbes, and the Bunnings/Spotlight complex includes another take away café. Same argument happened with the arrival of KFC and McDonalds, that local takeaways would close in Young. They didn't. One thing that is thriving here is the anti progress mindset," he wrote.
The proposed development is integrated development as a Controlled Activity Approval is required under the Water Management Act 2000. Hilltops Council is the consent authority for this application.
It can be be inspected at Hilltops Council offices, Town Hall, Boorowa Street, Young, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm until 18 July 2019.
