The Lions recovered from a 2-0 deficit at the break to surge home and secure a vital three points, thanks to a second half double from Hislop and one goal to Abdul Arja.
Lions captain Duncan Cameron, who played the pass for the match-winning goal, was hugely relieved to come away with a win on a freezing afternoon at Hall Bros Oval.
"It was a huge relief," he said.
"It's a team we should be beating, they're a good side, but the way we've been playing lately we should be beating them. So it was a huge relief."
Young trailed 2-0 after a "disappointing" opening 45 minutes, and it wasn't until the 70th minute that they managed to open their account, thanks to a cracking strike from Arja from outside the box.
Hislop bagged his first to level the scores with seven minutes on the clock, then he tapped home the winner courtesy of Cameron's pass with only seconds remaining.
"It was a very pleasing result. We were constantly on attack in the second half and once we got that first goal it went on from there," Cameron said.
Cameron identified Hislop, Arja and Isaac Anderson as three of Young's best on the day.
The Lions and the rest of the competition have a bye this weekend.
