Boys vocal program a success
Just before the end of the school term Young played host to just under sixty boys from public schools across the Riverina, when they attended a three day boys singing workshop run by The Arts Unit.
Locally, students travelled from Stockinbingal, Young Public School, Young North Public School, Young High School, Monteagle Public School and Murringo Public School.
The program brought together boys who shave a love of singing and musix, so that they could learn a song in a three part harmony, film a music video and professionally record their song.
Stuart Davis, a professional conductor from Sydney, led the boys in learning Memories and Dust by Australian singer/songwriter Josh Pyke.
Young High School hosted the program, working in collaboration with Young Regional School of Music.
The boys, from eighteen different schools, worked well together, made lots of new friends and picked up invaluable skills in the singing workshops that they will keep with them for a lifetime.
The final recording and music video clip will be available soon on The Arts Unit website.
Murringo students play their part
Students from Young and across the district put on two shows that left local audiences thrilled at the beginning of July with the Young School of Music's production of Beauty and the Beast Junior.
The Young Regional School of Music were thrilled with the reaction from the packed audiences who turned out to see months of hard work pay off for the students, tutors and parents involved.
Rehearsals started way back in February with the students working hard on their dancing, singing and acting skills every week, under the expert tutelage of Young Regional School of Music teacher Emily Calvert.
Parents even got involved when they stepped up to provide stunning sets, props and elaborate costumes while the students brought all of the talent to the stage.
The students ranged from Kindergarten to Year 11 and came from as far away as Grenfell, Cowra, Boorowa and Harden to participate not only in rehearsals but in the performances of the production as well.
Those involved made lots of new friends, learned how to work together to produce a quality outcome and improved their singing, dancing and acting skills.
The performances of Beauty and the Beast Junior were all but sold out and the reviews from those in attendance were fantastic.
Congratulations to all involved and we can't wait to see what they Young Regional School of Music brings us again next time!
Boorowa Central, Hennessy Catholic College, Young Public, Young North, Young High, Trinity Catholic Primary, St Raphael's, St Mary's, St Josephs (Boorowa), St Joseph's (Grenfell) and Murringo Public all took part in the production.
