Hospital Auxiliary president Janice Ward says she is honoured to lead the band of members who so generously cook and donate all the soups, slices and cakes for the day every year.

"Ingredients particularly meats like lamb shanks are very expensive," Janice explained.

This year members wanted to add savoury morsels and so there was even more cooking - mini sausage rolls, quiches and puffs - just beautiful food cooked with love, thanks to their dedication and hard work.

Janice said not only can they cook, but it is a team effort, everyone works so well together, they just see a job and it's done.

"It's also lovely that people who are not members donate soups and slices and help on the day," she said.

"The whole event had a lovely feeling of friendliness and community spirit.

"We have many people who regularly attend to enjoy the food and a good chat, but new faces were also among the crowd, which resulted in a record number of people through the door - 173."

Community support included regular raffle donors Harvey Norman and Robert Donges (IGA), and this year the Auxiliary received a $100 fuel voucher from South West Fuel.

Breads were donated by Sunnyside Bakery, Young Hot Bake and Wilders. This year also had sponsorship from Hilltops Council of $400.

"We thank these donors very much," Janice said.

"We are also thankful for the publicity we received from the Witness, Phoenix, 2YYY, 2LF, the Visitor Information Centre and businesses who displayed our poster.

"We are fortunate that the community supports us so well, as any medical equipment is so expensive."

Winners of the raffle were Sue Moriarty (Soup maker and vegetables) and Merv Heskett (fuel voucher).

More than $3000 was banked on the day.

"A wonderful result," president Janice Ward said.

Proceeds will go towards the purchase of items on the Hospital "wish list".
