Sargent heavily impacted the wall at turn six while avoiding a slower car during the session, and was diagnosed with concussion before being transported to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne for observation.
While the damage to Sargent's Formula Ford was repaired on Saturday evening, medical experts instructed him to remain in hospital under observation, ruling him out of further participation from the weekend.
Sargent's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the excellent officials at Sandown Raceway, and specially highlight the outstanding efforts of the medical staff who ensured Sargent was placed in the best-possible care.
Sargent was discharged from hospital on Sunday, and was able to be at Sandown to watch his CHE Racing team-mate Lachlan Mineeff take the overall round win.
While his non-participation meant he did not score any points on the weekend, Sargent has remained in the top five in the championship standings, and at 39 points off the series lead, he is still well in contention for the title with 122 points on offer across the remaining two rounds.
The penultimate round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held on Sargent's home turf, Goulburn's Wakefield Park circuit, from September 6 until September 8.
