Owen Griffiths has been recognised as the Young Yabbies best player of the 2019 Central West South West Oilsplus competition.

Griffiths recorded the most tries for the Yabbies on their way to a fifth-place finish in their return season to the Central West, after a number of years in the Canberra/Monaro competition.

The fullback, from the United Kingdom, arrived in Young before the season after spending time in Victoria during the 2018/19 summer.

President of the Yabbies Ces Finley said Griffiths is unlikely to feature in the 2020 season.

"He turned out to be a handy player," Finley said.
