A smaller than expected crowd witnessed some exciting racing and close finishes at the Young Paceway last Friday night. A highlight of the evening was the winning double by local trainer Peter Schiller with Corporal Jujon and So Much Bettor.

Racing opened with an odds on favourite, Isntthatright ($1.80) failing to impress after being three back the pegs and failing to secure a run finishing sixth behind Enk Spot Shannon ($21) for Peter Bullock and McKayler Barnes and minor placegetters last start Canberra winner Impertinent Boy and Billysbredone.
The mile rating of 2:01.5 was to be one of the better times on the night with the winner posting a 53/4 winning margin for his seventh win.
It was to be a better result for favourite backers when Corporal Jujon ($1.60) led at the bell after setting two first quarter times of below average in 32.7 and 33.1 to come home in 29.7 and a conservative mile rating of 2:05.1 in defeating A Good Ideal and Just Smoken by a 1.2 metre margin. Corporal Jujon has now won eleven races from just over 70 starts.
Junee trained six-year-old mare Fastestgirlintown ($5.00) proved to be just that winning race three in grand style for Molly Turton. Locally trained favourite in the race She Owns The Day ($2.15) came from sixth at the bell and just failed to run down the winner in an exciting finish.
Another locally trained pacer in Uroc Baby filled the minor placing with the race again not producing any fast times.
The winners mile rate being 2.08.6 and a margin of 7.4 metres in favour of the winner. The second of the Peter Schiller trained pacers, So Much Bettor was, as the name suggests, too much better for favourite Arcachon ($2.80) rating a slick 1:58.3 and outsider Soffire Girl ($81.0). The winner started at the good odds of $5.50.
The final of the HRNSW Rewards Series resulted in a win for the locally trained Play Up A Storm ($2.40) for John Vautin. A last start Wagga winner in the heats, Play Up A Storm has shown vast improvement over recent weeks and his win was certainly not unexpected with a leaders time of 30.2 for the final quarter and a mile rating of 2:04.4.
Racing concluded with race six and here the winner, Mah Koo Loo Queen ($2.70) provided the right medicine for owner Peter Sykes with a narrow 1/2 head win over I'll Be A Lady and early leader Hello Miss Kitty a head away in third. A mile rating of 2:01.7.
Unfortunately Peter has not been in the best of health recently and his excitement in seeing his Josh Powderly trained mare win her seventh race from 50 starts was a joy to behold.
Young harness racing club will race again on Tuesday, October 22 followed by a meeting on Tuesday night, October 29.
