The Baha'i writings teaches that all people "have been created to carry forward an ever-advancing civilisation" - a belief which is certainly reflected in the comings and goings of Pink House.
Motivated by the principles of the oneness of humanity, the harmony of science and religion and the need for an independent investigation of the truth, service-minded individuals of diverse ages, cultures and beliefs have been gathering and learning about how we can contribute to the progress of our community.
At the heart of this worldwide process of community-building known as the Ruhi Institute is the empowerment of local youth. In the young people of the world there lies a reservoir of capacity to transform society, and Pink House is supporting youth to unlock this potential.
For the past year, a group of youth from 10 to 15 years old have been participating in the junior youth spiritual empowerment program, through which they have built the capacity to plan and carry out service projects, discuss meaningful concepts and topics, and strengthen their friendships.
One of their most recent endeavours was to help organise an open day, in which parents and the community were invited to find out about the community-building activities which are currently primarily based at Pink House.
On the day, over 60 people from a variety of backgrounds came together and talked about how everyone can become active agents of positive change. As a result of this consultation, a weekly devotional gathering has begun on Sunday nights.
Everyone, from young children to elders, come together and share prayers, quotes and songs in order to stimulate reflection on themes relevant to the community such as unity, peace or love.
Since the open day, the youth have been discussing how they can play a role in nurturing the children of our town.
They have just begun planning for a children's festival which is now scheduled for January 19. Every activity will contribute to the overall aim of helping children develop the gem-like qualities and virtues they all inherently possess. The future is looking bright.
