The crafty off-spinner was one of five Australians to be selected following a huge 12 months in the Test arena.
He was picked alongside teammates Pat Cummins, who was named ICC Test player of the year, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc.
Lyon finished the year with 45 Test wickets at an average of 33.26, second behind Cummins who claimed an incredible 59 wickets at 20.13.
It capped a top year for Lyon who became only the fourth Australian to reach 350 Test wickets.
He made the achievement with a six-wicket haul during England's second innings of the opening Ashes Test at Edgbaston, piloting the Aussies to an early series lead.
He joins fine company in Dennis Lillee, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne as the only other Australians to reach 350 wickets.
Meanwhile, Lyon is expected to be available for the Sydney Sixers upcoming fixtures as he edges closer to fully recovering from a finger injury he suffered in the third Test against New Zealand at the SCG.
He dropped a catch on day three which resulted in an injury to his thumb.
