Thompson has played more than 200 NRL games and is preparing for his third season with Manly Sea Eagles.
The hard running second-rower will captain the Indigenous All Stars side in their clash against the Maori All Stars on the Gold Coast at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday, February 22.
Thompson played juniors for Forbes Magpies and attended Red Bend Catholic College before picking up a contract with the Raiders. He also spent time with St George Illawarra Dragons.
The sports awards this year will be held at the Young Golf Club on March 28.
Tickets will be made available in early March at the Young S and C Club.
All monthly medal recipients have now been named, recognising individuals and teams who now have the chance to be named Young's junior, intermediate or senior 2019 Sportsperson of the Year.
A Team of the Year prize is also awarded.
Since the Young Witness article in November last year there has been additions to the nominees lists.
Ruby Holt (dancing) and Georgia Wheeler (PSSA athletics) were late entries for September and October in the juniors.
In November, the intermediate nominee was Matthew Noakes for his efforts in rugby league (under 16s), Sienna Wheeler took the junior nomination for achievements across multiple sports, and Cherrypicker Jayke Hogan was named senior nominee.
Intermediate nominee for December went to George Fuller for athletics and Boro Navori was the senior recipient for his achievements with the Cherrypickers.
Team of the Year nominees have also been announced throughout the year.
Murringo Public School's NSW PSSA athletics team was recognised for November and Young's girls under-15s rugby union took out December's nomination.
Monthly winners are urged to submit achievements to Trish Patterson by February 28 for consideration for awards.
