In a twist of fate, the winner of last year's Young Carnival Of Cups, Make Mine Heaven, driven by Bernie Hewitt, will be represented at the sale by way of the embryo transfer procedure that the Standardbred industry has adopted over recent years.
Under the management of the Eureka Standardbred Unit Trust No. 6 and Pepper Tree Farm manager Rob Vandyke, the transfer took place whilst Make Mine Heaven was still a racing proposition, the sire selected was to be the leading stallion Art Major and the resulting foal was a well presented filly, born January 1, 2018.
This yearling is among 19 lots to be paraded by Young-based Success Stud on behalf of Pepper Tree Farm and clients together with their own draft, which should create a great deal of interest at the sale that is open to the public on both days, Saturday and Sunday.
Another interesting sidelight to the sale is the introduction of some trotting yearlings, not to be confused with pacing yearlings, and again Success Stud has a representative in this category.
A recent New Zealand purchase of a mare, Chevrons Sweetheart, in foal to leading trotting stallion Father Patrick - a winner of over $2.6m - has produced an outstanding bay filly, lot 504 being the fourth yearling to be paraded for sale on the day that will commence at 10am.
Monteagle participants David and Rachael Micallef will once again support the sale with a draft of 10 yearlings on behalf of themselves and clients that include regular contributors Eric and Rosemary Basham together with David Cordina.
Lot 648 is an interesting addition, a filly from the Tasmanian mare Chalondra who can boast a second dam connection to Inter Dominion winner Beautide.
Chalondra has already produced two winning foals of racing age and the Monteagle mentors are once again looking forward to a successful sale.
On Friday, March 13 Young Harness Racing Club will once again conduct the Carnival Of Cups meeting with the Young Oaks and Young Derby also on the expected eight race programme.
