Well for once the forecasters got it right and the cold snap and rain that was predicted for Young at the end of last week hit with a vengeance.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology Young recorded 9.8mm of rain up until 9am on Saturday August 8, 19.2mm up until 9am on Sunday August 9 and 4.2mm of rain up until 9am on Monday August 10, bringing the total rainfall for the weekend to 33.2mm, although some rain gauges in the region recorded even more.
It was a busy weekend for the Yass-Hilltops SES with the locals responding to 21 jobs Young Unit Commander Todd Richens said.
According to Todd 14 of the calls were related to flooding with residents asking for sandbags to protect property.
"The call for the first flood rescue was 7am Sunday morning," Todd said. "A driver was stranded in a sinking vehicle near Gundaroo."
There were five cows along with their calves who were rescued from the Yass River along with five horses.
"Out on the Crookwell road near Boorowa around 30 sheep were saved from flood waters," Todd said. "A flood boat had to be used to rescue all livestock."
According to BoM there is more rain expected to fall on the region from Wednesday morning and will continue to fall right through into next week.
