Gumnut Grove Childcare in Young recently achieved a healthy menu, meeting the Caring for Children guidelines in the last month after assessment by Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) in the Menu Makeover initiative.
The Caring for Children guidelines incorporates the latest Australian Dietary Guidelines and Infant Feeding Guidelines and is the key document for the Munch and Move early program.
The Munch and Move program encourages mealtimes as a great platform to educate children about food, develop healthy habits and have conversations about food.
"I'm very pleased to receive recognition from MLHD for providing our children with a healthy menu that meets all the requirements," Gumnut Grove director Meghan Pratt said.
"I would like to acknowledge the work of Clare Hayes who has spent many hours of planning to achieve this wonderful menu," Ms Pratt said.
"It has always been our goal to achieve best practice around food options we provide to our children on a daily basis. Many children are eating meals on a regular basis in care, making a large contribution to their diets.
"We offer a variety of foods that are inclusive, both culturally and for those with special needs and diets. It has been very satisfying to see the children enjoying the meals provided."
Health Promotion Officer at Young Community Health Service Barb Manwaring said the new menu provides nutritious food and drinks for children in care.
"I congratulate Meghan and Clare on this outstanding menu," Mrs Manwaring said. "Gumnut Grove Childcare should be very proud."
