There were 819 steal from dwelling crimes reported to police across the Central West, during the 12 months to June 2020.

This is an 11.1 per cent jump on the 737 cases during the previous year.

The number of residential break and enters, however, was relatively stable at 1182 incidents, with only a slight (1.2 per cent) increase on the 1167 during the previous year.

Despite this stability, the rate of residential break and enters in the Central West is almost double the NSW rate per 100,000 population.

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) data also showed that of the 17 major crime categories reported, eight had an increased number of incidents in the Central West while nine declined.

The number of non-dwelling break and enters was also stable with 453 of these crimes reported during the 12-month period compared to 454 the year before.

Sexual assault cases in the region increased from 273 incidents to 282, which represents a jump of 3.3 per cent.

Fraud cases reported to the police increased from 1093 cases to 1139 (up 4.2 per cent).

Among the crimes to experience a significant decline was steal from motor vehicle which dropped by 20.1 per cent year-on-year.

The most recent report showed 896 incidents compared to 1124 the year before.

The COIVD-19 pandemic also led to a reduction in the number of steal from retail store crimes occurring during the reporting period.

This crime dropped by 12.3 per cent, from 635 cases to 557.

Cases of malicious damage incidents fell from 2311 to 2278 (1.4 per cent), robbery without a firearm crimes declined from 37 to 31 cases (down 16.2 per cent).

Murder is also among the reporting categories and during the recent 12 months to June 2020 there was one less murder in the region, with two this year compared to three the previous year.
