In the process the son of former top pacer Alitomo will be attempting to emulate the feats of his mother who took out the Cherry Cup in 1997 and his half sister Imatomo who saluted in the 2010 edition of the feature event.
Owned and bred in Cowra by Peter and Anne O'Connor, Joetomo has hit a purple patch of form since Anne decided to take out her trainers licence again this year.
Trained as a two-year-old by Greg Rue, Joetomo missed his three-year-old season with a leg injury before returning to the Rue stable for the early part of his four-year-old season.
Friday's Young Cherry Cup was always in their sights when Anne took out her licence again.
"We going for the three-peat," Peter said of the family connection to the race.
"It's a good field but he has dawn well."
Under Anne's guiding hands Joetomo has had four starts, winning his past two at Young and Canberra.
At this first start for Anne he finished fourth at West Wyalong before breaking at his second start at Canberra.
"He used to come home to Cowra for a spell and this time Anne just decided to take out her trainers licence again and keep him going," Peter said.
Both Alitomo and Imatomo were trained by Anne O'Connor.
