After the project was delayed late last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, it has been given the green light to commence.
Harden Murrumburrah Regional Development Corporation [HRDC] chairman Richard Fleming said that the project will generate a buzz for the town after a tumultuous 2020 and create an additional tourism attraction for the region.
"I am so pleased to announce that the Mills painting will begin early this week, after 2020 I think it's exactly what this community needs," Richard Fleming said.
"Harden Murrumburrah is currently seeing an upturn in the economy with increased drive tourism and localised spending. These factors, in addition to several large projects such as the Murrumboola Creek redevelopment set to begin within the first quarter should see this positive upturn continue throughout the year."
The Harden fire brigade and NSW Rural Fire Service personnel washed down the Mills as a training exercise on Sunday morning.
HRDC CEO Chris Ireland took the opportunity to thank the people working hard behind the scenes to get the project off the ground.
"This is a really exciting project for the community, and there are plenty of people to thank. Firstly, the Harden Murrumburrah fire brigade and RFS who have provided the artist with a clean site to work with," Chris Ireland said.
"Kellie Forsyth and her family for being so accommodating to the project and allowing access to the site through her property, our sub-committee members of Maryanne McKay and Lorraine Brown who have worked tirelessly to ensure milestones have stayed on track, and finally the property owners Greg Medway and Robyn Cooper whom to which none of this would be possible without their support and approval."
At this stage it is anticipated that the project will take approximately four to six weeks, weather dependent.
