In April 1970 they were engaged after an invitation to a royal reception at the Trocadero in Sydney, as Kay had won title of Cherry Queen at the National Cherry Festival in 1969.
Kay and Cliff married at St Mary's in Young on January 30, 1971.
Wayne Drady, a school friend of Cliff's, was best man and Kay had two of her six sisters, Barbara and Jane, as her attendants.
Trevor Stuart, Kay's father, gave the bride away and the reception was held at the Southern Cross Hall.
The honeymoon was spent travelling north where it rained constantly, while Young had been in drought. They made their home at The Oaks in Greenethorpe.
