On the third anniversary of the death of his best mate and fellow junior driver Nic Dewar, Young reinsman Blake Micallef raised his whip to the heavens.
Micallef was thrilled to taste success.
"It was definitely nice to win," Micallef said.
"I try not to think about it too much but the only reason I knew was Mum told me."
Trained by his father David, Billysbredone had finished runner up in four of his last five starts.
Micallef was pleased the six-year-old returned to his best after winning three in quick succession in the winter.
"The horse has been knocking on the door and they are excellent owners so it is always good to get a win for them" he said.
"He takes a while to come back from a spell but the more you race him the fitter he gets and the fitter he gets the better he becomes."
Making an early move to find the front, Billysbredone shot clear of his rivals up the straight, allowing plenty of time for Micallef to raise his whip before Go Anne Go closed the margin to 3.4 metres.
Meanwhile Michael Towers tasted success after moving to the region with Our Reason Todream bringing up her first win at start six.
Meanwhile, racing returns to Young Paceway on Friday evening, with a Menangle Country Series Heat headlining the meeting.
Young trainer Glen Wilmot has Sincitygambler engaged.
The five-year-old gelding finished second at Menangle two starts back in a Menangle Country Series Final.
Wilmot will be hoping Sincitygambler can recapture the form he showed winning a heat at Goulburn last month.
Also featured is Unfinished Business, a six-year-old gelding, who is eyeing off five straight wins for trainer Darrell Hillier.
Amanda Turnbull has two chances, Lifeofbrian and Chasing The Wind, which look to be the leading chances.
Wilmot has promising pacer Treacherous One entered in the 3YO Pace (1720m).
Treacherous One, who has only five races to his record, ran third in his past two starts and finished second at Wagga back in July last year before spelling.
Grenfell trainer Mark Hewitt has Patricia Mac in the same race.
A number of leading trainers from the region including Mat Rue, Bernie Hewitt and Amanda Turnbull have multiple runners engaged throughout the evening meeting.
Racing begins 6.15pm with the eighth and final race set for 9.45pm.
