Hilltops councillors at February's council meeting endorsed a recommendation to develop a street party event on Boorowa Street, proposed to be held on Saturday, April 10.
The event has a $10,000 budget and is funded through the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
The funding is designed to help develop events that will activate and reinvigorate business centres and communities post COVID-19.
A report prepared for councillors says the proposed event will create a "fun and exciting atmosphere in the main shopping precinct of Young that will attract and retain people in the area".
Roads won't be closed during the event, with activities, including street performers, magicians, balloon artists, hoola hoop demonstrations and participation, a silent disco, buskers and an augmented reality display, taking place on footpaths, alleys and available spaces.
The event will comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
Activities will be given multiple session times between 9am and 1pm.
"It's about trying to invigorate main streets. We did talk with business representatives from the three main townships... they were excited by what could be a pilot program," Hilltops Council general manager Anthony O'Reilly said.
"This summer fund is to hold a street event here in Young. It's going to be a really, really exciting event."
