Last Sunday, the Young team played Wagga at Gus Smith Oval in Young.
This was the top two teams of the Northern Riverina Geoff Lawson Cup competition with the winner to be awarded champions.
Wagga won the toss and elected to bat. Tight bowling by Caleb Schiller and Liam Miller dried the runs up and Wagga were 1/26 at 15 overs.
Billy Lamb and Lachie Brown continued with the tight bowling and Wagga were 2/77 at 30 overs.
Run outs to Joe Roberts and James Rogers couldn't stem the flow of runs as Wagga scored another 100 runs off their last 15 overs to finish with 7/177.
Dom Cusack was the star with the ball taking 3/28 off his seven overs.
He was well supported by Oscar Taylor and Ethan Miller who both snared a wicket.
Openers Josh Cameron and Liam Miller got the team off to a solid start before Liam was bowled for 20 and the score was 1/44 after 15 overs.
Joe Roberts and Josh continued with the steady runs until Joe was dismissed for 37 with the score on 113.
Caleb Schiller and Josh continued with the run chase requiring six runs per over.
Josh was finally dismissed with the score on 142 with a great captains knock of 59.
Still needing 35 off 6 overs young Jack Woods strode to the crease to join the ever reliable Caleb.
The tension was high as classy bowling made runs difficult and favouritism changed with every ball.
As Wagga dotted up the balls and applied the pressure Jack and Caleb both hit boundaries to ease the pressure.
13 runs off 2 overs became 7 runs off 1 over.
Two singles started the over until Jack Woods unleashed the shot of the day to hit the opening bowler over his head and down the ground for 4.
Still needing 1 run off 3 balls became 1 run off the last ball as Jack cleared the close in fielders to secure one of the most amazing victories Young has ever seen.
As the players ran onto the field in jubilation it was Caleb 26* and Jack 22* who raised their bats.
This team has only lost one game this season against some very strong competition and are to be congratulated on the way they have played the game and represented the town of Young.
Well done Boys!
