Commissioner Baxter and the NSW Fire and Rescue executive leadership team visited the Young Fire Station on Tuesday.
Commissioner Baxter and his leadership team were headed to Temora for a two-day meeting, held once every two months in a different location outside Sydney.
It was a chance for Commissioner Baxter to find out if there are any issues in the region he needs to be aware of.
He said it was important to him to make sure the crews are receiving the support they need to be trained to the best of their ability.
"There's always consistent themes. The things that are important to firies is generally about them doing the job. What's really important is training, that they are getting adequate support with their training. Our capabilities as an organisation and going out their and doing the job safe, that's expected of them today, relies really heavily on how we prepare firefighters for the job. It's all about the training they get. There's so much expected from firefighters today. It's not just about fires in houses or fires in buildings. It's about rescues from motor vehicles, rescues down embankments, hazardous materials. There's lots of things firies are expected to do at a drop of a hat," Commissioner Baxter said.
"Also trucks, standard of appliance fleets, protective clothing, and the state of their station are always the types of things that are discussed."
Also in attendance on Tuesday was Region South Area Commander Greg Buckley, and Region West Area Commander Steve Hirst.
They were in town for the joint-region quarterly meeting, held at Young Fire Station.
"We've combined today with one of the south and west leadership meetings. I always say to the executive leadership team that they can come out and see the results of decisions they are making.
"It's important because it's not all Sydney-centric," NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Paul Baxter added.
