However it didn't stop them later in the day.

The Wallendbeen couple had five runners in the Rules Club Free For All (400m), all with the moniker Chance in their name, but couldn't chase down the only greyhound not from their kennel.

Instead it was Leonard Holmes and Magic Duo who spoiled the party.

Three races later Nigel's Chance made amends as he dominated his rivals to bounce back to winning ways.

Bursting clear at the start, Nigel's Chance never looked like being headed as he brought up his eighth career win in the M Williams Painting & Decor 4th/5th Grade (400m).

After starting from box seven, Jack Roy was surprised by the strength of his win.

"It's actually the first time he's won from an outside box as he usually goes better from an inside box," Roy said.

"He went good. Showed speed and chased good and that's all you can ask."

Nigel's Chance ended a run outs.

His record now stands at eight wins and five from 23 starts but he'd only been placed in two of his last eight.

Roy thought he appreciated a drop in class.

"He's come back down in grade, which helps a lot," he said.

"Now he will go back up but that's the nature of the beast."

However Roy rued the current handicapping system as something he believes disincentives travel and ensures greyhounds hit harder marks earlier in their careers.

After a bright start to his career, winning five of his first eight starts, Nigel's Chance has struggled in recent times.

All of his wins have come at Wagga but he takes that grading to any other track.

"Now it is a waste of time travelling as if I'm third grade here I'm third grade wherever I go," he said.

"Even at Dapto and Bulli and you're racing for the same as I'm racing for here.

"There is no advantage but when his mother was racing it was an advantage."

Meanwhile Genevieve Izmir took out the GRNSW 5th Grade Series Final (525m) for Gregg Mills.

It was part of a double for the Cootamundra trainer who also won with Izmir Songbird.
