Brendan Robert Curl was identified by Strike Force Miriam detectives during their monitoring of phone calls and texts between other persons of interest earlier this year.

During a conversation with another person, Curl was intercepted by police saying he has six "customers".

"I legit have six customers bro, if you want I'll stop and you can have the run and see there's f*** all in Grenfell man...... I'm just letting you know it's nothing like Young/Cowra....," Curl was intercepted saying.

During conversations with another person, according to police statements, Curl had been requested to leave half an ounce of cannabis in a shoe outside a Grenfell residence.

Police, during May, conducted a search of Curl's residence and then charged him with the supply of 420g of cannabis between February and May, 2021.

He was charged for dealing with proceeds of crime having received $5800 in exchange for cannabis.

Police also found a taser during their search of his residence, which Curl admitted to owning, however the court heard it was "non-operative".

Curl's solicitor said his client had a "handful of customers" and was involved in a "small-scale, unsophisticated operation". Magistrate Jillian Kiely agreed, however she said general deterrence was important in this case.

"A very unsophisticated operation escalated because of his own use and turned into an operation in company of other people," Magistrate Kiely said.

"He didn't completely understand how serious these offences were, especially in the eyes of the court. It's important to send a strong message to the community as cannabis is generally a gateway drug to others."

Narrowly avoiding prison, Curl, who pleaded guilty to all charges, was convicted and sentenced to an intensive corrections order for 15 months with conditions to engage in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and abstain from drugs.
