A huge congratulations goes out to Justin who was judged as going above and beyond to give back to the local community.
The Order of Australia Association (NSW) Youth Community Service Award, which was formerly known as the John Lincoln Youth Community Service Award, was instituted by the OAA to recognise outstanding service to the community by senior NSW secondary school students.
Each year, all NSW High School Principals are requested to consider recognizing outstanding community service by a senior student during years 11 or 12 of the NSW HSC or International Baccalaureate programs.
Hennessy Catholic College principal Kathy Holding said she is very proud of Justin and his recognition in receiving the award.
"It wasn't as exciting as visiting Government House," Ms Holding said.
"However, it doesn't diminish the recognition the award brings."
Nominations for the awards began back in early April with an initial email to principals calling for nominations of Year 11 and 12 students for outstanding service to their communities.
Nominations then closed on May 28, 2021 before judging was finalised on June 29, 2021.
The presentation of awards by Her Excellency, The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of NSW, at NSW Government House on Thursday September 23 was not able to go ahead owing to the current COVID situation, so instead the presentation went virtual with students able to receive their award from Her Excellency via a virtual presentation.
"The Order of Australia recognises those who have made outstanding contributions that benefit their communities, and ultimately our country," an OAA spokesperson said.
"These awards, by their very nature, define and identify role models at all levels within our communities and inspire us all to become more fully engaged citizens."
