The 28-year-old had been weighing up his options, but younger brother Nick stepping into the captain-coach role at Young made the decision a lot easier.
"Now that Nicholas has got the captain-coach gig with Young I've decided to stay on with him and commit to another year there," Cornish said.
"I was considering finishing up footy all together as I have a young family of four, who are all under six, so life is a bit hectic at the moment but with the way he finished, when I thought we were in a real good position to give it a red hot crack, my wife said to me that you can't finish on that and you have to go again so that was all I needed to be OK."
The star halfback has also really enjoyed his season in Group Nine.
After 20 NRL games with Canberra and the Roosters, Cornish returned home to Goulburn in 2019 and has appreciated the challenge involved with travelling to play with the Cherrypickers.
"I had a few mates who went over last year in Mick Dodson and Blake Hewitt who said it was a really challenging comp and a really strong competition and that we would enjoy the challenge," Cornish said.
"It definitely didn't disappoint and the club has been absolutely amazing and is one of the best organisations I've been involved in.
"I'd love to stay, if the body will allow me, for a few years but we will see."
