Minister for Small Business Katrina Hodgkinson personally choose Young to officially launch the second bus in Young because of the town’s “vibrancy” and “opportunities”.
Community leaders, professionals, local government representatives and members of the public gathered in Anderson Park at 12pm on Wednesday for the launch.
NSW Small Business Commissioner Yasmin King, acting manager of South Eastern Enterprises Ron Watts, Harden mayor Chris Manchester and Liberal candidate for Hume Angus Taylor were also present.
The service - funded by the NSW government and part of the Small Biz Connect program - targets the needs of small businesses by coming to town and offering a small business mentor and advice on retail trade, planning and marketing, technology, how to start or exit a business, how to improve the business and maximise profits.
The bus also offers translation services and advice to small business owners affected by disasters such as bush fires and floods.
The first bus was launched in Sydney in December and has visited 140 businesses over 19 locations in this region, adding to a total of 1000 businesses in NSW over seven to eight months.
“These are the first buses of this kind, the first time we have moving advisors,” Ms Hodgkinson, “we plan for one bus to service the metropolitan area and the second for regional NSW.”
Ms Hodgkinson said having run a small business herself she knows how costly it is to take time off work to travel for advice.
Small Business Commissioner Ms King also said “wherever locally we (the bus) go, there will be a local business advisor there”.
For Young it is Karen Kemp from BEC (Business Enterprise Centre).
