The CWA Spring Fair is the branch’s major fundraising event of the year.
“We had numerous stalls selling all kinds of articles including bric-a-brac, ‘Balloons Aloft’ honey, cakes, biscuits and slice,” CWA publicity officer Lyn Callaghan said.
On top of all the other stalls the CWA Cottage Craft stall had all types of craft articles ranging from crocheted blankets and baby wear to aprons and hand made jewellery there was also a plant stall with some very interesting and unusual pot plants.
“The CWA ladies of Young branch supplied a delicious morning tea of sandwiches, slice, patty cakes and home made biscuits,” Mrs Callaghan said.
“If you were still hungry after the morning tea the Young Cadets ran a barbecue, selling sausage and steak sandwiches.
“To keep us entertained Vicki Walsh and Louise St John sang a variety of country songs.”
According to Mrs Callaghan the highlight of the day was the three ladies who raised money for CanAssist by getting sponsors to have their hair dyed bright pink or shaved.
“Only one lady, Rebecca Johnstone was brave enough to have her lovely, long locks completely removed and she raised $175 for CanAssist. Sarah raised $100 and Diana raised $82 with more to come in,” Mrs Callaghan said.
“The Cottage Craft Stall sold $364.80 and the raffle raised close to $600.”
There were six prizes the major prize was a garden seat donated by The Men's Shed for which the Young CWA Branch was gratefully thankful for their generous donation.
“It was such a successful day that we will probably make it an annual event and one satisfied customer even suggested twice a year,” Mrs Callaghan said.
“We would most certainly do it again as it was so popular with the general public and highlighted the work of CWA and its valuable contribution to the community.”
