Celebrating their 21st year of the competition, President of the Young Camera Club, Trevor Faulkes said that they were looking forward to another year of strong entries. “We’ve had entries from as far away as Port Macquarie and it’s always great to see different individuals take on photography”.
With ten open categories and two junior sections, Trevor said the judging criteria will be up to the individual judges discretion, however people should remember their quality, clarity and the rule of thirds, but also to enjoy taking their photos.
“I always quote a friend of mine who says photography should be fun, fun and more fun,” he said. “You should enjoy taking photos because you will get a lot more out of it and more often than not your photos will have better results”.
Trevor said that with the advent of digital cameras and mobile phones, photography has never been easier to get involved in. “I’ve traced the Young Camera Club back as far as December 1905, so you can only imagine the time and cost of taking photos back then,” he said. “The technology today just makes it so simple for people to have a go and the overall quality is still there if you know how to use your devices well”.
The National Cherry Festival Photographic Competition and Exhibition will host it’s opening night and awards ceremony on Friday, November 23 in the Millard’s Centre starting at 7.30pm with refreshments provided. The exhibition will then run until Sunday, December 2.
