Victoria Police said they executed a search warrant at an Ormond premises on Tuesday May 21 at 11.15am.
"Police have charged a 24-year-old Ormond man in relation to reports of alleged harassing phone calls," a police spokesperson said.
"The man was arrested and charged with using telecommunications services to harass and for breaching a court order."
Police said he was bailed to the Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court on November 21.
In a statement, the AFL said they were aware of the charges against Mr Thomas.
"The AFL is aware of today's developments in relation to Tarryn Thomas including that he has been charged with offences that are now before the courts," the statement said.
"The AFL cannot and will not make any comments in relation to those new charges while the police investigation is ongoing."
The AFL said that they would not permit Mr Thomas to join the list of any AFL club pending the hearing and determination of the chargers and that he would not be approved to play at any level.
North Melbourne sacked Mr Thomas in February after he was suspended for 18 games by the AFL after they found him guilty of various acts of misconduct, including threatening a woman via direct messages multiple times. He had been at the club since he was a teenager.
"There is no excuse for the behaviour or the hurt he caused a young woman," the AFL's general counsel Stephen Meade said at the time, with the club adding that they hoped he would find the support right for him.
The AFL stated that Mr Thomas cannot train or play at any level without their approval under the previous sanctions.
Support is available for those who may be distressed.
