Mr Grant, along with all other country NSW greyhound racing clubs, were told the GRNSW board would notify them at the end of January about a meeting they planned to hold on the direction of greyhound racing.
“We don’t know what they plan to do – we’ve heard a lot of rumours,” Mr Grant said.
“There are 32 registered clubs and they might be reducing that to 18, and maybe closing country clubs,” he said.
“It’s a financial thing,” Mr Grant added.
There have been rumours there may be a push for TAB Racing to look after meetings and Mr Grant said if that is the case, Young has a leg-in.
“We actually have TAB on course, we’re just not sending out our pictures,” Mr Grant said.
“If they do convert, we have a leg-in,” he said.
Mr Grant said yesterday the board was supposed to notify them at the end of the month, “which is today,” he said.
“Unless we get something in the mail today… They’re leaving us in the dark,” Mr Grant said.
NSW greyhound clubs claim they have been receiving unfair pay from the TAB which has seen their money limited to 13 per cent – something that was signed in a contract between 1989-90.
“At the moment we’re getting around a 20 per cent turnover,” Mr Grant said.
Mr Grant believes the GRNSW board’s money troubles have partly stemmed from when the board bought the Gardens Greyhound Sporting Complex in Newcastle.
