Two guest speakers from the National Boer War Memorial Association, Keith Smith and Paul Lenehan, will be talking about the conflict at the Country Women’s Association Centre in Lovell Street on Wednesday, May 15.
And everyone’s invited.
Topics headlining the presentation include the fundamentals about the Boer War, Australia’s role, Australian soldier and nurse service, and Boer War memorials in Australia.
They will also be talking about the absence of a national Boer War Memorial in Canberra, and proposed designs and fundraising for one to be built in Anzac Parade in Canberra.
“My presentation material ranges across how Australia got itself into the Boer War, the Federation effect, and the troops themselves including ones recruited in the larger Young area, especially Harden the home of the Australian Horse,” Mr Smith said.
“I will also talk about the need for a national Boer War memorial,” he said.
The Young Lions Club will be playing host to the event and have organised two sessions, one at 1.30pm and another at 7pm.
“The presentation is not a fund raising drive but the need to share the knowledge that is limited amongst Australian people,” Young Lions Club vice president Ron Hampton said.
“It’s a big thing,” he said.
The sessions will run for around 90 minutes.
