The carnival had around 235 teams from the ages of 8 to 15 years.
Teams came from all over NSW from Sutherland to Young.
On the Saturday the girls had a two hour training session with one of Illawarra’s top coaches.
Stephanie put the girls through their paces and worked the girls with new passing drills, court play and their defensive skills.
All the girls worked extremely hard and benefited greatly from this training session.
After training the girls had time to go and explore the beautiful beaches that the Illawarra had to offer. They even had time to shop.
On the Sunday the girls were up early and ready to take on the carnival and show the Illawarra the best of Young netball.
In the first game the 13s took on the Meadow Falcons and won 24-1.
From the shooters to the defence they were able to pick up intercept after intercept.
Which allowed for some great attacking play down the court.
Second game saw the team take on the Helensburgh Sapphires and again they won 25-1.
Defence again was the difference and the smooth transition in attack by the 13s lead to this big win.
Next the girls took on Meadow Sporty Chicks and the girls lifted for a tougher game.
All seven players took to the challenge in this game and came out triumph 16-5.
Fatima Falcons which come from the Sutherland area was our next game. Again the girls stepped up and came out on top winning 17 -1.
The girls rose to the challenge a third time causing the Belconnen team to turn over the ball and we were able to convert all these turn overs.
The 13s came out victors 17-1, with the Belconnen coach stating the Young team was a “beautiful team to watch and well disciplined”.
The 13s then took on the hardest opponents of the day, Shoalhaven 13s.
The Shoalhaven team competed at Division 2 at the NSW State Age Championships and the girls knew they would have to bring their A game.
All players worked extremely hard in defence.
It was a hard fought game coming out winners 15-5.
With two games left the team could not afford to stop the outstanding play they had done all day.
They took on Go Hire and the 13s did not let themselves down winning 15-1.
Their last game for the weekend was against Berkeley Blazers and the girls won 23-nil.
The 13s went to Illawarra and showed them what Young netball is all about.
The statistics for the day were 18 points, 115 goals for, 15 against and a percentage of 1,033.33.
The shooters Emma Kelly, Claudia Grazina and Chloe Jones moved the ball around beautifully in the circle and shot at high percentage each game.
Marylouise Mineham, Ashley Carroll, Shannae Hasinger, Maddi Holland connected the two ends and moved the ball from the defence end to the attack end.
Marylouise and Ashley made some great passes setting the shooters up for easy shots, while Shannae and Maddi intercepted the ball at crucial times.
Karlee Slater and Tiffany Penfold worked hard in the defensive circle which is demonstrated by allowing only 15 goals being scored for the whole eight games.
Cheering from the sideline was Trinity whose had been sick all week.
A big thank you to Kelly Slater who umpired all day, to Bec Jones, Nat Carroll and Sherie Hasinger who drove the girls to Wollongong for the carnival. Thanks Lorraine Regan for scoring all day.
Also thank you to Stephanie, South Wests Credit Union, Poppas Fudge Factory, Western Plains Zoo who donated to the 13s and made it possible for the girls to travel. To everyone in Young who supported the barbeques and raffle, thank you.
