Weekend Wombat walk to help preserve churches

This Sunday residents and supporters will gather from 10am at Saint Columbanus on Hope Street to start their walk which will finish at Saint Matthews Anglican church on Wycomb Street. 

The brain child of Wombat resident Neil Barry, and the Wombat combined churches committee have rallied behind the idea and are looking forward to hosting plenty of visitors for what will be set to be a wonderful community event. 

The combined churches committee of Wombat are hoping the walk is well attended and funds raised from the event will go towards to preserving the two churches which are now both over 140 years old.

Both are still important meeting places for the residents of Wombat and have been venues for many a momentous occasion whether it be a christening, wedding ora fond farewell to a loved one. 

Sunday, April 6 marks the end of daylight savings so everyone will have an extra hour of sleep which will energise them for a good walk around the back streets of Wombat - so no excuses.

On the day there will be two walks on offer depending on how energetic you will be feeling. 

For the fit and fearless there will be a 10.4km course taking in the sights of the soft rolling hills of Wombat going down Tanah Merah Lane, along Boundary Road and Bibaringa Road; or the 3km short course has you heading along Race Creek Road, then along Manning Street back to Saint Matthews.

Walker registration will start from 9am at Saint Columbanus Catholic Church on Hope Street.

The entry fee covers drinks throughout the walk and a barbecue lunch at the conclusion of the walk in the grounds of Saint Matthews on Wycomb Street. 

Entry fee for the walk are as follows: 

Adults: $25, Under 16s: $15 and families: $50.
