Owner operators of Christy Park at Monteagle, the couple have invested many hours of work to develop what is hoped to be a showcase for harness racing followers in southern NSW.
David is the regular starter at clubs throughout the southern part of NSW, and Rachael has combined her regular job with the stand-by race day secretary of the Young club.
The investment made in the purchase of two well-bred broodmares at the sales are testament to their commitment in the sport that has been an integral part of their lives for many years, both in racing, breaking, breeding and preparing yearlings for various sales throughout Australia.
First to catch their eye was Lot 4 (Pocketfullof
dreams) a striking black mare carrying a foal by boom New Zealand sire Bettors Delight.
She herself is by In The Pocket from the Smooth Fella mare Jayvee, already a proven dam of many winners. The mare has breeding that includes such historic names as Tar Heel, Meadow Skipper, Overtrick and Adios Butler.
The second mare to be knocked down to the Micallefs was Lot 11 (Angela Paton) another black mare by the prolific brood mare sire Holmes Hanover from the top producing mare Anna Paton. A dam of eight foals with six to race for six winners, the future again looks bright for this young mare who is carrying a foal by Rocknroll Hanover.
Her impressive bloodlines include such names as Meadow Skipper, Albatross, Tar Heel, Adios and Billy Direct.
Both mares were presented by the renowned Breckon Farms Ltd. Ohaupo and New Zealand are presently being acclimatised in Sydney following their boat trip to Australia.
The eagerly awaited transportation to Young will take place in a couple of weeks, much to the delight of the Micallef family.
