Michael Philpot, 58, of Young, has pleaded not guilty to using a carriage service to procure a person under 16.
The charge is a Commonwealth offence that carries a maximum 15 years' jail.
Philpot was excused from attending the ACT Magistrates Court when the case was mentioned briefly on Thursday.
Magistrate Beth Campbell said he was required to appear next month, when he would likely face a committal hearing.
The matter will be back in court on September 4.
