On July 19 and 20 Mother Nature played in the club’s favour after a week of miserable weather, and provided competitors with two cracking days of sunshine.
Due to the Darwin Nationals falling on the same weekend, the carnival was only small, but 10 teams were scraped together – along with 12 ‘subies’ – from Oberon, harden, Tumut, Orange, Canberra and Young.
Results are as follows:
All subies received a medallion, whip and a halter.
Best and fairest subie: Male – Colly Thomas of Tumut. Female – Felicity Webb of Oberon.
B Grade winners – Tumut 2, and runners-up – Young 2.
Young 2 beat Tumut 2 in their game, but were beaten by two points on a goal countback.
B Grade best and fairest: Male – Darcy Sibley of Young. Female - Georgie Donaldson of Oberon.
A Grade winners – Tumut 1, and runners-up – Young 2.
A Grade best and fairest: Male – Murray Thomas of Tumut. Female – Laura Beer of Young.
Overall horse and rider combination – James Stewart of Tumut.
The last game on Sunday afternoon was between the two winning teams in the round robin; Young 1 and Tumut 2. A fast and exciting game was contested, with both teams even until the last chukka when Tumut ended up taking the victory, 14-10.
Young played hard throughout the game, and with five of the six being first-seasoned horses, the future of Young’s polocrosse team is looking promising.
The club wishes to extend a special thank you to their sponsors – Grenfell Commodities, Grenfell Hardware, Grenfell Caltex, CRT Grenfell, Beaurepairs Grenfell, Rob Ricketts, McClintocks, Phil Hargraves, Bromar, CRT Young, Giddy up gags and bits Young, T&D’s Young and Tamb and Seed Young. Thanks also goes to the Grenfell Racecourse committee , the Grenfell community and to the members of Young Polocrosse.
“They are great facilities and we look forward to running bigger carnivals next year,” Shayne Moore said.
