This event is a fireman’s ball - on Saturday, September 6 - and it’s not too late to secure your ticket.
“A lot of people are under the belief that the ball is for firefighters only. It’s not, it’s open to the whole community,” Young Rural Fire Brigade captain Steve Warwick said.
“Anyone looking for a great and elegant evening out is invited to attend. It’s all about giving the town something different, raising our profile and those who attend will also be helping to raise much needed funds for a local fire brigade.”
In the grand background that is the Young Town Hall, attendees will be treated to a three course meal and fundraiser auction before dancing the night away to a 25-piece swing band.
The swing band – called In Full Swing – is otherwise known as Canberra’s premier big band and will be the ball’s biggest attraction.
In Full Swing has an extensive repertoire of music from the big band era of the 1930-40s, right through to contemporary funk, rock and Latin songs.
They regularly perform at Australia’s biggest spring festival Floriade.
The night will also feature medal presentations, a photo booth and the presence of a representative from the NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner’s office.
“We’re a charity organisation that volunteers support for training and preparation for fire seasons, call outs to house fires, motor vehicle accidents and assistance to ambulance and SES,” Steve said.
“And we’re dependent on funding from outside the RFS,” he said.
“We’ve already had amazing support from our local businesses, which we are very grateful for – especially when they have so many charities approaching them for support every week.”
The ball is going to be the brigade’s biggest fundraiser and recruitment drive to date, from which they hope to use the money they raise to upgrade to their station and training facilities in Rockdale Road.
“These include an in station filling point for the tankers, general training equipment such as a computer, printer/copier and internet access, more pagers, training programs and a general member area where firefighters can relax after call outs and shift changes on fire campaigns,” Steve said.
“We’d love to see you there.”
Tickets are on sale now for $80 each at M&M’s Music (cash only) until September 4.
Doors open from 5.30pm and attire is formal.
