The theme for Mental Health Month this year, ‘Value Your Mind’, aims to encourage people to prioritise their own mental health and wellbeing just as much as they would their physical health.
Katrina said mental health issues affect approximately one in five Australians every year, and Mental Health Month this October presents a good opportunity to understand the importance mental health plays in our daily lives, whether having experienced a mental illness or not.
“The hustle and bustle of our daily lives often means people forget to stop for a moment and consider their own mental health and wellbeing,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
“Mental Health Month provides the perfect opportunity for people to reach out to one another and talk about mental health, and in doing so help break down the stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness face every day.
“There will be a number of Mental Health Month events being held throughout the Cootamundra electorate this month, including Café Conversations at Art of Espresso Café, Main Street, Young from 5.30pm to 7pm on October 7, 14 and 21, as well as the Golden Plains, Dramatic Minds Festival in Temora on Friday, October 23 from 11.45am to 3pm at the Temora Town Hall, Loftus Street, Temora.
“I encourage everyone to get involved,” Katrina said.
Mental Health Month is coordinated by the Mental Health Association of NSW.
