It's that time of the week again where we&nbsp;take&nbsp;a look back at what's been happening in Young. We've compiled our top stories from around the shire over the last seven days to form this photo gallery and keep you updated. This week's news summary&nbsp;is from October 19-23. Construction on the mustard oil plant that was once based in Cowra - acquired by a group of Young businessmen 18 months ago and named under the company Australian Mustard Oil (AMO) - has finally started on a site in Young near the AMBOS silos. Affable mechanic/technician from Wilder Motorcycles and Power Equipment, Roly Orr, has recently competed in and won the bi-annual Yamaha Motorcycle Technician GP in Sydney and is off to Yamaha HQ in Japan next year to compete in the world titles. Photo submitted.

A 24-year-old Adelaide man and a 37-year-old Ryde woman will face the Cootamundra Local Court on December 7, charged with numerous break and enter offences on piggeries across NSW, including one at a Young piggery in 2013. Photo The Young Witness.

Last week work began on the upgrade of the Gus Smith Oval car park. It will come as a relief to many - particularly parents of junior athletes - who know just how messy the area becomes after some rain.

Playing cricket can be a favourite pastime many take for granted, but not the Dream Cricket kids! IN another solid step towards addressing the burgeoning use of crystal methamphetamine (ice) in the community, Young Shire Council recently funded a workshop at their offices in Boorowa Street to help bolster people’s understanding of the drug.

This time last year Young’s abattoir was set to reopen early November, after nearly four years of preparation and amid hopes it would be a catalyst for the development of the town’s economy.

This time in 2012, after years of either drought or rain - and other than some frost damage in the lower parts of the district - cherry farmers were looking to see the quality of harvest not seen in years.

This time in 2010, Young Community Transport took out the 2010 Community Transport of the Year at a state conference in Albury. They were  praised for going above and beyond their call of duty.

This time in 2004, Cherry Queen Alicia Rentoule attended Flemington Markets for the auction of the season’s first cherries that sold for $45,000.

This time in 1995, Country Fast Photos won the Kodak Exp-ress Customer Service Store of the Year at the Global Television Awards. Phil Haywood was named president of the Australian Rural Telecentres Association.

A man who neglected to treat his cancer-ridden Hereford cow - that had been suffering from an eye cancer so severe it had eaten away the eye, resulting in the animal having to be destroyed - was fined a total of $1200 in Young Local Court.

Cootamundra Local Area Command officers and detectives on Tuesday joined the search for two wanted men, Gino and Mark Stocco, as unconfirmed reports placed the fugitives at a truck stop on the western end of the command near Marsden. In a frustrating twist, there were reports the Stoccos had been sighted in Young’s Big W at 10am Monday, but police were not notified.

Margaret House Women's Refuge president Sue McGregor was presented a cheque for $600 from Barry Rose and Col Harmer of the Model A Ford Club, Australia, following the club's recent tour of the district. 

Cricket legend Doug Walters is touring Australia and spreading the cricketing world via his clinics, one which featured in Young today at Keith Cullen Oval between 3:45pm-5:30pm.

The South West Slopes Cricket League - combining 15 teams from around the region - is already seeing a number of cracking rounds with new rivalries being born. The last Young team in action over the weekend as part of the league was the town’s newest in the Commercial Hotel Phoenix. Daniel Kelly from Young Phoenix celebrating a wicket on the weekend.

Tarcutta woman, a mother-of-four, Sheridan Ingold is fired up and ready to tackle this year’s Cherry Chase. Between juggling part-time work, caring for her young family and helping on the family farm, Sheridan has also been able to find some spare minutes to run laps of her paddock in preparation for Young’s annual fun run. Maimuru Public School (pictured) is the latest among Young Shire schools to receive a set of flashing lights to better protect children in school zones. The school now joins five other local schools who had their lights installed last month, ahead of the start of the final school term that began on October 6.

Just before 7pm on Wednesday night, a gas leak broke out at the corner of Lovell and Thornhill streets in Young during roadworks where a rock fell and split the pipe. One person was evacuated while repairs were made to the gas line. Photo Elouise Hawkey.

The Wall of Renown at Young High School recognises the achievements of past students who have gone on to make a significant contribution and principal Keith Duran said nominations are now being sought for the 2015 inductee.

WHILE most females are playing netball, swimming or horse riding, local woman Wendy Maxwell can’t get enough of the game of cricket and has been playing since the 1970s. To this day she still holds numerous club bowling records in Women’s Sydney Grade Cricket.
