Emergency services were alerted to the blaze about midday with authorities saying it was still out of control by about 2.30pm.
But by 3pm its status had been changed to ‘under control’ and was reported to be heading away from the village, with it being contained within crops.
The fire was burning on Yeo Yeo Hampstead Road, Stockinbingal with several firefighters on scene.
Col Adams Aerial Services and other aviation assistance were called to the fire, together with Rural Fire Service firefighters on the ground.
RFS Aviation Support Group were at Cootamundra Airport re-filling planes.
