Connelly said at the conclusion of the 2015-16 cricket season the junior association looked into options to upgrade the surface, and work is finally underway.
“None of us could remember the last time it’s been updated, probably 20 plus years it’s been there,” Connelly said.
“The surface that was there was worn out with holes, so it’s a brand new surface and will be used extensively throughout both junior and senior season.”
The association has since approached local businesses and have secured two grants to fund the upgrade. And in true country town spirit, Terry Bros Carpet Court offered their labor at no cost.
Young Shire Council and Gary Lucas have also shown their support in identifying the ground around the pitch to be higher than the pitch itself and leveling the area.
Connelly predicts the works to be complete in a month’s time.
