A large attendance at last Thursday’s 10th annual Rowallan Poll Dorset on-property Ram sale saw tops of $2700 reached as 114 of the 127 rams offered sold for an average price of $1348.
Steve and Liz Boland of Rosedale Plains Poll Dorsets, Tubbul, paid the top money of $2700 for July 2015 born son of Pollambi 52/13 who had both Carcase plus and Lamb 2020 terminal indexes in top 10% of Lambplan.
Mr Boland was drawn to the young ram for his “making shape, balance, and style, size and structure”.
“He has really good figures, and his sire is ranked fifth overall in Lambplan,” he said
“He is the first live ram we have bought in years for the stud as we have been using solely AI matings since 2009”.
Garry Owen Pastoral purchased 14 rams for an average of $1550. Hugh Thackeray put together 10 for his draft with an average of $1510, while Glenn Butt purchased 10 averaging $1220 for his.
The sale was conducted by Gerrard & Partners and Butt Livestock, with James Tierney and John Gerrard sharing the auctioneering duties.
