Cherry festival win
Young Bowling Club had a wonderful response from bowlers who were keen to travel to Young for the Cherry Festival Women’s Triples Tournament on November 15-16.
Some 96 players in 32 teams took to the greens for some fierce competition for the prize money on offer but it was a local team consisting of two bowlers from Young and one from Grenfell who won the tournament.
Teams were from Glenbrook, Goulburn, Crookwell, Parkes, Castle Hill, Dural, Blackheath, Sussex Inlet, Cootamundra, Cowra, Grenfell, Gundagai, Temora, St Marys, Tumut, Forbes, Wagga Wagga, Junee and Queanbeyan and a great representation from Young.
Winners of Young Women’s Triples Tournament were:
1st Rosemary Walter (Grenfell) Wilma Moors and Judy Watson (Young)
2nd Ina Ford, Joan Dunn and Helen Pearce (Gundagai)
3rd Jenny Mann, Bobbie Cockcane (Castle Hill) and Leone Lesslie (Dural)
4th Margaret Gailey, Heather Bailey and Margo Parker (Young)
Mixed pairs tournament
A lot of the women bowlers stayed on in Young after taking part in the Women’s Tournament to team up with husbands or partners to play in the Mixed Tournament.
Other bowlers travelled from Castle Hill, The Hills, Windang, Crookwell, Lithgow, Sussex Inlet, Grenfell, Blackhead, Tuggeranong, Goulburn, Glenbrook, Junee, Tura Beach, Bega, Temora, Dural and Boorowa. There were nine teams from Young.
There were 126 bowlers in all which made up 42 teams, the maximum amount for our tournaments.
Another successful year for the Cherry Festival celebrations.

1st Shirley de la Harpe and Danny Phillips (The Hills)
2nd Vera and Rick Malley (Windang)
3rd Carol and Joe Zimoch (Tuggeranong)
The days were warm and the competition fierce in both events. Many thanks go to the committees who organised the event, publicity and the draw for teams and their scorecards.
Many thanks also go to Dorothy Shepherd and Margaret Glasheen for setting up the scoreboards and keeping an accurate score for both competitions.
