St Mary’s principal Louise Grant said one of the major objectives of Catholic Schools Week, which begins on March 6, is to raise public awareness of the strengths of Catholic schools in the region.
"We'd also like to highlight the significant contribution the catholic education sector makes to our region," she said.
"Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity to share with the broader community the great things that take place in our schools every day."
Mrs Grant said one of the Young community initiatives is for her school leaders to share their love of literature with the pre-school children.
"A group of year six children would like to visit a local preschool during that week and present a well-known children’s book," she said.
"The duration of the presentation would be 15 to 20 minutes and should time permit, the students could also read the children a story in small groups.
“There is a possibility of the presentation being repeated for a number of classes.”
St Mary’s will be able to show off their flexible learning spaces during the week.
“Our teachers have embraced the concept of flexible learning spaces and the children are responding with excitement and enthusiasm,” Mrs Grant said.
Hennessy Catholic College principal Trazel Scott said she is proud of the school's Catholic traditions.
"We are immensely proud of our Catholic heritage and are committed to celebrating and showcasing the achievements of students in our school," she said.
"This year’s theme is ‘Catholic schools: Faith in our Future’ and our school is proud of the wonderful teaching and learning that takes place in our classrooms every day.
“Our focus this year is on articulating specific learning intentions each lesson to enhance student growth.
“We have also introduced a vertical pastoral care model aimed to nurture every student academically and socially ‘Building Hennessy Pride’ is a key driver for us this year.”
Mrs Scott said the Hennessy Catholic College will hold a grandparents morning and open day on Tuesday, March 6, the open day will commence in the afternoon at 1.00pm and conclude at 4.30pm.
"We welcome all members of the Young and wider community to come and have a tour with our students and see our school in action,” Mrs Scott said.
